A re-look at gun control on Occam’s razor edge

Back in January I wrote an article about the false logic of gun control and how the argument between gun control and gun rights fairs when placed within the constructs of Occam’s Razor; the logic principle that the argument that makes the fewest assumptions is the right one. In the current debate concerning guns in America, I am always astounded by the twisting of facts, logic and reason that the gun control zealots put forth in order to defend their case.  By all sense and logic, gun control cannot be viewed as anything other than a means to oppress a free people and to disarm the law abiding. When looking at the pro-rights argument against the pro-control argument one needs to cut through the hyperbole and sensationalism with Occam’s razor. Plainly put, Occam’s razor is the process in which, when you have two competing theories, the one that makes...

Only in California: Private party gun transfers illegal while backalley abortions just signed into law

I really wonder about California sometimes. The militant liberal left, the one that welcomes all voices so long as they agree with them, the one that is the most vicious and violent to those who disagree with them, the one who unabashedly infringe on everyone’s rights except those that narrowly fit into their ideology, has done it again. Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 154 on Wednesday allowing for non-physicians to perform abortions.  It would be one thing if that meant only handing out medication like the day after pill but the bill actually allows for non-physicians to perform invasive medical procedures in order to kill the unborn child. Now, I have the knowledge and the steady hand to remove a person’s appendix but I doubt my zero years in medical school would cause a lineup of people at my door looking for appendectomies. I don’t care what your stance...

Did the NYC cops at the biker beatdown have a duty to intervene? “No” says court precedents

Now that we have found out that at least 5 New York City cops were at the scene where Alexian Lien was pulled from his vehicle in front of his family and beaten by a biker gang, understandable outrage has come from the public. Calls for these officers to lose there jobs, be arrested and sued have been prevalent, but will they? While it is true that 1 cop has all ready been arrested, that was for his active participation of the beating, the fates of the other cops who just stood by and watched has yet to be determined. Would it surprise you that legally these cops have no duty to interfere and stop a crime against an individual? In 1856 the Supreme Court ruled in South v Maryland that local law-enforcement had no duty to protect individuals, but only a general duty to enforce the laws  But that...

A Look at Obama “Under the Radar”

Back in 2011, President Obama promised Sarah Brady that he was working on gun control being quoted as saying to her, “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.” So over the past 2 years, what has “under the radar” entailed?  While the President continues to fail infringing on gun rights by championing legislation, he succeeds by sneaking through continuous executive orders and other directives to federal agencies in order to push forward his gun control agenda. Through executive order the President has done the following: Bans the re-importation of over 600,000 historical M1 Garands to the US Makes it more difficult for gun trusts to purchase firearms Harassment of gun shops on the southern border Set up impediments for the return of property wrongly seized by the government Encourage, through Obamacare, for doctors to ostracize gun owners Push for industry bankrupting false science initiatives such as micro stamping With the...

A few facts gun owners should keep in mind

There are a few factoids that gun owners should keep in mind.  These mental notes both remind gun owners of what is important and also are good conversation anecdotes to have with those who might not understand why gun ownership is such an important thing. Guns only have 2 enemies – rust and politicians. Gun effectiveness in regards to distance is on a bell curve.  If your target is too far your weapon is ineffective, too close and its effectiveness can be compromised The average response time of a 911 call is 13 minutes. The response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second. You can either shoot and be judged by your peers or not shoot and take your chances with the goodness of the criminal. God made all men, Sam Colt made all men equal.  That’s even more true when you include women. Center mass for...

NY’s SAFE Act: Making It Safe For Bikers To Beat A Father Protecting His Family Half To Death

Gov. Cuomo’s keystone gun control legislation, the SAFE Act,, has lived up to its name by protecting a group of renegade bikers while they terrorized a family and beat the father half to death. On the West Side Highway of New York City, in the middle of the afternoon in broad daylight a biker gang known as the Hollywood Stuntz pulled in front of SUV of Alexian Lien and slowed to a stop.  At which point the biker gang began to smash the vehicle with their helmets and slashed the tires with knives while LIen’s wife and young child were trapped inside.  Lien, fearing for the safety of his family accelerated through the biker blockade, hitting several bikers, in his attempt to escape. The Stuntz gave pursuit for 50 blocks before Lien’s slashed tires finally gave out and he had to get off the highway, at which point the...

If Gun Controllers Read The Other Amendments Like They Do The 2nd

Gun control zealots love to get hooked on the semantics of the 2nd Amendment. Due to the forefathers elegant writing that is more verse than prose, gun control zealots have harped on misinterpreted syntaxes of the 2nd Amendment for years. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed The gun controllers like to say that since there isn’t an “and” between State and the right of the people that somehow invalidates the intent of founders.   The intent being found in the other writings of the time. George Mason: “I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” Sam Adams: “And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the...

The Right to Bear Arms: From Flintlocks to Lightsabers, what will the government control?

A common fallacy that the gun control crowd likes to put forth is that the 2nd Amendment limits the weapons available to the people of today to those available in the 1700’s.   Basically muskets, flintlock pistols and swords. While that makes as much sense as the limiting of the First amendment to single page press machines and speaking at town squares (thus excluding television, phones, internet etc), with the advance of technology I can only imagine what the controllers will say when I want to keep and bear my lightsaber. Lightsaber?!?!?! Yes, lightsaber. A team of Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) physicists have discovered a molecule that behaves exactly like the weapon made famous by Luke Skywalker. You can read the story about how they inadvertently discovered the “lightsaber” molecule here. With the gun controllers getting their panties in bunch over a sporting rifle being...

Anatomy of a Mass Shooting

I ended up watching a couple of old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy last night.  For those of you who may not know it, Grey’s Anatomy is a hospital drama set in Seattle. What caught my attention was that these episodes dealt with a mass shooting at the hospital committed by a deranged man whose wife had die while under the care of the doctors there. The shooter basically walked around calmly as ever, looking for the Chief of Surgery who he blamed directly for his wife’s death and started shooting people who weren’t helpful or who had tried to stop him or were just other surgeons.  What ended up happening was that after the first few victims were finally discovered the hospital was put on lock-down and the police were called. The shooter? Well, he kept on calmly walking around shooting people at will. You see, this fictional hospital...

The Government is “shutdown”…what about NICS?

I read a funny tweet today, day one of the government shutdown. https://twitter.com/PoliticalLaughs/status/385050028324044800 While that seems oddly accurate there are things that regular people may require of the government. For instance, the NICS background check system.  Will this be operational while the government is “shutdown”?  I put shutdown in quotes because of all the people who get furloughed, guess who STILL gets paid…yep…CONGRESS and the President. But I digress, will American citizens be allowed to purchase firearms that require a NICS check or has the government once again finagled their way into infringing the rights of law abiding citizens? The answer is rather simple. The Federal Bureau of Investigation runs the NICS system out of  the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia.  Oh yeah, the FBI is still funded during the “shutdown”.  And as the FBI notes on their own website, “NICS is available 17...

Lies My Government Tells Me

With the recent signing of the UN Arms Treaty and its potential to undermine American sovereignty in regards to the 2nd Amendment, Sec. of State John Kerry and the Obama Administration has assured the public that they are not going after guns.  History, both recent and spanned, tell us that taking the government’s word in regards to “what will and will not happen” is tenuous at best. Here is a list of just some of the lies our government tells us. Social Security.  Putting aside promises that may have been made by FDR that the number would not be used for identification or that the program would be voluntary (yeah right) there are concrete promises that have been quickly tossed out.  Did you know that when the government was trying to cram the social security ponzi scheme down the American throats they made a lot of promises and even...

Hypocrisy Continues…Lawful Eagle Murder Being Pushed Forward

An object in California is criticized by some and heralded by others.  On one hand it promotes liberty yet on the other it can cause tragedy and bloodshed.  Used properly it can be a great safety net to the people of California while improper or criminal use will result in bloodshed.  Some find them disturbing while others appreciate the benefit they provide. Of course I am speaking of Wind Turbines. Thought I was talking about guns?  Gimme a minute. The murder machines that are wind turbines, while providing alternative energy and helping liberate us from foreign oil are still responsible for the declination of the Golden Eagle. This is AVIARY GENOCIDE. Now, if the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service follows precedent on how California handles things when it comes to the 2nd Amendment, they will no doubt sensationalize the deaths and over look the positives.  They will start a smear...

Who Needs a Gun? Paramedics. Ambulance CARJACKED in Philly w/ Patient in Back

Last week in Philadelphia an ambulance was carjacked on its way to a hospital.  The carjacker removed the two EMS personnel from the ambulance at gun point and drove off with a patient in the back. The jacker, 25-year-old Brian Timothy Kada Jr, drove erratically, weaving in and out of freeway traffic and eventually having to abandon the ambulance after disabling it.  He fled on foot and was eventually arrested by police. The patient in the back of the ambulance was shaken up but all together unharmed from the carjacking. While fortunate no one was injured, this once again shows in whose hands gun control leaves power, because paramedics are disarmed while carjacking thugs could care less about gun control laws. The rules of being licensed as a paramedic in Pennsylvania specifically state that as a paramedic you are prohibited from carrying a weapon to defend yourself. The regulations covering...

Gun Control working to facilitate hate crimes in New York City

As hate crime mob beatings in New York City continue to escalate in ferocity as well as in frequency, gun control appears to be working as it was intended.  In that, the people most prone to be attacked aren’t having to sink to the level of shooting their attackers and can take the moral highroad of being beaten, sometimes to death. Of course I am being facetious with the previous sentence in response to this online meme the Brady Campaign came out with a while back But even though the Brady Campaign tries to backpedal from the above ad that was featured on their facebook page, and other gun control groups distance themselves from the sentiment the fact is that gun control’s end result is exploiting the weak and the few to the whims of the strong and the many. Just like a 100lb woman will find it difficult...

How the Kenyan Mall Massacre Can Easily Happen in the US…Thanks Gun Control

Last week Islamic Terrorists stormed the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya killing at least 68 people.  Four days later, the armed men have continued to hold off police attempts to retake the mall. These terrorists executed anyone who wasn’t a muslim or couldn’t answer questions about Islam such as what Muhammed’s mother’s name was or couldn’t recite passages from the Koran. The first thing I could think of is how easily that could happen here.  The second was how did it happened in Kenya in the first place? The answer is the fallacy of gun control. A quick run down of gun control measures in Kenya: The Washington DC National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence categorizes the regulation of guns in Kenya as restrictive. The right to private gun ownership is not guaranteed by law Civilians are not allowed to possess semi-automatic self-loading military assault rifles...

The Journal News Not Only Hates Gun Owners But Is Apparently Racist Too

The Journal News, as you may recall, is the New York based newspaper that made national headlines by producing an interactive map detailing exactly where gun owners lived in Westchester and Rockland Counties. While the newspaper’s hostility toward gun owners and disregard for people’s privacy is well documented the Journal News abject racism towards blacks has been only recently exposed. In the Westchester County Executive race this fall, the Journal News has actively joined the election to suppress voices from blacks.  The incumbent, Republican Rob Astorino, who did not care for the Journal News’ invasion of his constituents privacy is up for re-election against Mayor of New Rochelle, Noam “Back of the Bus” Bramson. Noam Bramson  Yet when the New Rochelle Lincoln Zuber Riders for Justice (a local org made up of prominent black citizens) bought a full page ad in the Journal News to highlight Bramson’s long history of...

Gun Tip of the Day: Aluminum Foil Kills Rust

I hate to say it but I let one of my handguns get a little too humid this summer and didn’t do the proper preventive maintenance on it.  So, after spending the summer locked in its case I recoiled in disgust when I saw that it was covered in some parts by surface rust. Not the kind of rust you can just wipe off mind you…the kind that sticks. Oddly enough, as I have been restoring a motorcycle recently I had acquired some fantastic rust dissolver that was chewing up and spitting out rust like ole-timey tobacco. Yet the problem with these rust dissolvers is that they are extremely potent.  The kind you need to wear rubber gloves with and will eat paint right down to the metal.  So they cannot be used on a place that you do not want to see the original metal. So with dissolver...

Do Open Carriers ruin it for us all?

I have found in the years I have been involved in the firearms and 2nd Amendment community that often times gun owners are their own worst enemy. From that statement you might assume that I mean open carriers metaphorically shoot themselves in the foot because they make waves.  Unless you are an open carrier, then you might assume that I mean that close minded concealed carry only folk are causing a fracture in the firearms community. It should be no surprise to those who subscribe to this site and those who know me personally where I fall in the OC vs CC debate.  Back in July I penned an article entitled:  Open Carry Should Not Only Be Legal, But Encouraged. Of course, open carrying is back in the news because Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz recently came out saying that guns are no longer welcome at the coffee shops.  The...
