When Shooting at a Minivan Full of Kids is Justified

I heard this story out of New Mexico where some cops are in hot water over shooting at a minivan with 5 children in it. At first, I thought this was going to be one of those situations where under-trained cops got trigger happy and recklessly put innocent lives in danger much like the New York City cops that shot up the street near the Empire State Building killing their target in a hail of ill aimed bullets that struck NINE innocent bystanders. Or some thug cop who felt that they needed to put someone in their place by shooting them like the Houston Texas cop who shot a double amputee at a care home who had waved a pen at him menacingly. I mention these to show that I am no thin blue line cheerleader and am willing to cast some light on those who would try to...

NYS goes full on Nazi; SAFE act to encourage people to inform on neighbors if they have too many bullets

Fuhrer Cuomo has goosestepped his way even further down the path that leads to a freedom-less tyrannical autocracy. Apparently Cuomo fashions himself as a modern day Hitler. Yeah…how’s that for some bombastic opening sentences. Calling someone Hitler or a Nazi has long been a pastime of liberals who find themselves unable to cognitively refute a person with a different ideology. They toss it around so much that it has become cliche.  I’m not doing that.  Rather, I am pointing out how the methods of the Third Reich are being implemented as we speak in the Empire State under the watch of one Andrew Cuomo. Changing the rules in order to ram the SAFE Act down the throats of New Yorkers before they had time to voice dissent is one thing. Enacting a program where, in order to enforce the SAFE Act, you are encouraging neighbors to inform on neighbors...

Death of the Fourth Amendment means danger to the Second

You will often hear me voice my disdain for violations of the Fourth Amendment, freedom from unreasonable search and seizures, as I believe that it is second only to the Second Amendment with regards to importance rights enumerated by the Constitution.  While the other rights are important, the 4th is supposed to protect us from warrantless midnight raids of secret police and from our person being molested by thugs on fishing trips hiding behind badges. In a pair of disturbing violations of the Fourth Amendment, we can see the groundwork being laid to erase the Fourth from the law books and in doing so attack the 2nd Amendment directly. The first case involved scrap metal worker David Eckert who found himself in the wrong part of town in Deming, NM and as a result was repeatedly and forcibly raped over a twelve hour period by doctors who were being ordered...

The hypocrisy of gun controllers and the fallout

I just read an interesting article where political activist Adam Kokesh pled guilty to possessing a gun in DC. Adam Kokesh, the political activist who posted a video of himself pumping a shotgun near the White House, has pleaded guilty to weapons and drug charges. The 31-year-old Kokesh admitted in a D.C. Superior Court on Wednesday to charges of carrying a shotgun, possession of an unregistered firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of possession of marijuana. U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen Jr. applauded the conviction, pointing out that law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect national government facilities, landmarks and public servants working in the city. “Their jobs are hard enough without irresponsible people intentionally coming into the District of Columbia to brandish a loaded shotgun in the heart of the nation’s capital,” Machen said in a release....

Oregonian Man Wins Lawsuit After Being Unlawfully Detained While On His Front Lawn Getting His Mail

Kevin Hall of Corvallis, OR brought a suit against the city for the unlawful detention he experienced last October. While walking to his mailbox to retrieve his mail, while also open carrying a firearm, Hall was approached by Corvallis Police Officer James Dodge.  When Dodge approached, Hall asked him if he was being detained, Dodge replied no but would like to talk to Hall.  Since he wasn’t being detained and wasn’t doing anything wrong Hall started to return to his house when he was stopped by Dodge and told him NOW he was being detained. I guess, according to Officer Dodge, you are free to leave until you actually try to leave, then you are detained.  This is akin to the stories of the good ole boy Sheriffs’ who bash out taillights and then give you a ticket for it. The Officers defense becomes the theatre of the absurd...

Did the TSA have it coming? LAX, an inevitability?

When I ask if the TSA had it coming, i’m not referring to the TSA official, Geraldo Hernandez, who lost his life in Los Angeles at the hands of alleged shooter Paul Ciancia, but rather did the way the TSA as an organization harass, molest, humiliate and intimidate people over the last decade lead to this as an inevitability. Are the TSA and it’s agents little more than the bullies we find in situations like Taft Union High Schol and New Bedford Massachusetts? Situations where those being bullied and picked on eventually were driven to crazed acts with terrible consequences. I’m not condoning their actions, but I see public service announcements every day decrying the evils of bullying and how people should not tolerate it.  I shake my head because, just like real life, telling someone usually just makes it worse. If you don’t stand up against a bully...

Sanford, FL knee-jerks guns out of the hands of volunteers

When political knee jerk reaction meets the void where common sense has been sucked out you apparently get Sanford Florida. In the city where Neighborhood Watch member George Zimmerman saved his own life by stopping a man who was beating him to death, Sanford will release new parameters at a community meeting on November 5, stating explicitly that residents acting under the “authority” of the neighborhood watch may not carry a firearm or pursue someone they deem suspicious. I can understand the second part of this directive.  Members of the neighborhood watch may not be trained in surveillance and their pursuit might put them in a dangerous position, such as when George Zimmerman was attacked and almost murdered by the suspicious person he was following who doubled back and tried to beat him to death. The problem with Sanford’s new guidelines is that you are now mandating that people put...

TSA to use gun permit system to single out gun owning flyers

The Transportation Security Administration is expanding its screening of passengers before they arrive at the airport by searching a wide array of government and private databases that can include records like car registrations and employment information. What else does it include?  Well, if you are a gun owner with a CCW permit, it includes that.  If you live in a state that requires you to register a firearm, it includes that.  If you live in a state that keeps a database of firearm purchases, it includes that. Why is that a big deal? Because instead of looking for terrorists, the TSA will be directing extra scrutiny at law abiding gun owners while the guy from Nigeria with a pound of C-4 in his underwear will be waved by since the TSA is more comfortable with planes being hijacked than being accused of racial profiling. Also, what does the exercising...

“News of the Strange” – Squirrel Shootouts and Water Assaults

In a pair of head scratching stories involving guns a police officer in TN goes full on Robocop to handle a squirrel and in FL a 19 year old women gets arrested for an unprovoked water gun attack on her boyfriend. In the first story Officer Overkill Jody Putman was in a Dollar Store in Mountain Tennessee when the employers noticed that a squirrel was inside the store.  Putman leapt into immediate action and deployed his pepper spray on the furry little interloper.  When that failed he responded by pulling out his sidearm to dispense woodland justice to the trespasser. So in a scene reminiscent of a slapstick comedy,  people were fleeing the store hacking and coughing from the contact with the spray while Putman is firing live rounds at a little squirrel. Putman then tried to cover up his involvement in the great squirrel hunt of 2013 by refusing to file a...
