With the recent targeting and shooting of TSA personnel in Los Angeles there has been some discussion that the TSA should be an armed government agency. Seriously. Let’s start of with logic…also known as: gun controllers kryptonite. Why would the TSA need to be armed?  For all intents and purposes,  airports are gun free zones.  People travelling with their firearm must have it unloaded and locked in a case.  And no firearm can be present in the secured part of the airport which officially begins IN THE LINE of the security checkpoint. So, if the gun free zone that gun controllers champion really work, then TSA agents don’t need to be armed to defend themselves and that whole LAX thing must have been in our collective imaginations. Janina Dallas, the principal of McBean Elementary School in Hephzibah, GA,  has involved the police department in banning a student’s mother from the buildings and school property. The mother banned is Tanya Mount.  What did Tanya do that was so dangerous that it warranted Dallas taking these extreme measures? Mount took a picture of her recently issued Georgia CCW and posted it on facebook.   While I wouldn’t have posted my carry permit or any form of ID on social media there is no crime in that.  And if Mount was excited by getting hers and wanted to show her friends then I do not see the harm. Yet, Mount, an Army veteran, soon would discover what harm an irrational, hoplophobic administrator on a power trip can cause. What happens when you take a so called “gun free zone”, place it in a state with some of the strictest gun control measures in the country and all but ensure you have disarmed the law abiding? You get a shopping mall in Paramus NJ and only by the shooters intent was the only one killed himself. Richard Shoop, 20, of Washington Township NJ entered the mall, armed with a sporting rifle that he stole from his brother, apparently with the intent to commit suicide either by killing himself or via suicide by cop.  He had ample time and opportunity to shoot innocent bystanders but did not. Kevin Hall of Corvallis, OR brought a suit against the city for the unlawful detention he experienced last October. While walking to his mailbox to retrieve his mail, while also open carrying a firearm, Hall was approached by Corvallis Police Officer James Dodge.  When Dodge approached, Hall asked him if he was being detained, Dodge replied no but would like to talk to Hall.  Since he wasn’t being detained and wasn’t doing anything wrong Hall started to return to his house when he was stopped by Dodge and told him NOW he was being detained. I guess, according to Officer Dodge, you are free to leave until you actually try to leave, then you are detained.  This is akin to the stories of the good ole boy Sheriffs’ who bash out taillights and then give you a ticket for it. While taking a walk one day,  legally open carrying a firearm, Christopher Proescher was stopped by police, questioned and arrested.  The local prosecutor, seeing the Mr. Proeshcer committed no crime dropped all charges.  In response to the false arrest Proescher reasonably filed a lawsuit against the officers. Fast forward to Federal judge William S. Duffey Jr. who made the inane decision that while the arresting officers were wrong in arresting Proescher (you know, because he didn’t break any laws) that carrying a pistol openly constitutes reasonable suspicion of a crime, which authorizes officers to detain the person who is carrying and as such the officers acted properly. Allow me to rephrase: By exercising your legal right, you have forfeited your 4th Amendment Rights and as such will be subject to detention and false arrest with no recourse. When I ask if the TSA had it coming, i’m not referring to the TSA official, Geraldo Hernandez, who lost his life in Los Angeles at the hands of alleged shooter Paul Ciancia, but rather did the way the TSA as an organization harass, molest, humiliate and intimidate people over the last decade lead to this as an inevitability. Are the TSA and it’s agents little more than the bullies we find in situations like Taft Union High Schol and New Bedford Massachusetts? There seems to be patron saints of nearly everything.  Last year I discovered a Saint that surprised even me. Today, being All Saint’s Day, I thought I would take a moment to bring to light the story of that particular Saint;  Saint Gabriel Possenti, the Patron Saint of Handgunners. In 1860, Saint Possenti was attending seminary in the mountain village of Isola.  He was also dying of tuberculosis which would eventually take his life less than two years later. In the city where Neighborhood Watch member George Zimmerman saved his own life by stopping a man who was beating him to death, Sanford will release new parameters at a community meeting on November 5, stating explicitly that residents acting under the “authority” of the neighborhood watch may not carry a firearm or pursue someone they deem suspicious. The St. Helens School Board in Oregon lifted a ban that had prevented teachers with concealed carry permits from carrying their guns on campus. School board chairman Marshall Porter said, “The current law in Oregon allows for anyone to concealed carry on school grounds. To exclude our staff seems like they’re being punished. Is it really too much to ask that a sports team accurately represent where they are. Growing up in New York I always had a problem with the New Jersey Giants and the New Jersey Jets trying to pass themselves off as New York’s team.  If you can’t or don’t want to pony up the money to play in the city then you really shouldn’t have the right to falsely identify with them.  And yes, while the Giants and the Titans (original name of the Jets) started out playing in New York City, the title of New York does not transfer in perpetuity. How was Danvers High math teacher Colleen Ritzer killed? With a box cutter by someone who was bigger and stronger than she was. After school, the accused murderer, Philip Chism, followed her into the girls bathroom.  The “whys” of what happened are still being investigated, whether this was a rage killing or attempted rape has not yet been discovered but one thing was for certain, Ms. Ritzer was beaten and stabbed and never left that bathroom alive.
