Unlike the methods of Ostriches and Gun Controllers, Alaskans teach children gun safety so to avoid tragedy

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Earlier this week, about 150 sixth graders headed to the firing range to learn about firearms.  Floyd Dryden Middle school runs a program that teaches any 6th grader in Juneau who wants to, how to safely handle and shoot rifles, as well as hunting ethics, conservation and management, navigation and other outdoor skills. But don’t misunderstand, just as the Second Amendment isn’t about hunting, neither is this program.  Program Director Ken Coate stresses: “We aren’t here to create little hunters. We’re here to teach firearm safety, firearm handling, how to treat a firearm with respect, how to keep a kid from getting in trouble with a firearm — and everything else is a side benefit.” Jesse Kiehl, who has been with the program for six years goes a little...

And he who has no sword, let him sell his coat and buy one – Luke 22:36

It makes for a rather fantastical tale — Indiana Pastor Carl Sanders walked into a Dollar General store to purchase Gatorade and found himself in the middle of a heist. The store seemed unusually quiet Friday night, Sanders told NBC local news affiliate WFIE. The Covenant Life Ministries preacher entered to witness a man in a bandana ordering the store clerk to hand over cash. The robber, later identified as 25-year-old Jermaine Dewayne Marshall, turned to Sanders with his hand wrapped in plastic. The concealed object was found to be only a spoon, however at the time, it was impossible to judge. – See more at: http://patriotoutdoornews.com/ At that point the pastor pulled out his concealed firearm and ordered the would be robber to the ground where he remained until police arrived. The image of a gun slinging pastor may foster for some images of spaghetti westerns and Clint Eastwood but...

TSA to use gun permit system to single out gun owning flyers

The Transportation Security Administration is expanding its screening of passengers before they arrive at the airport by searching a wide array of government and private databases that can include records like car registrations and employment information. What else does it include?  Well, if you are a gun owner with a CCW permit, it includes that.  If you live in a state that requires you to register a firearm, it includes that.  If you live in a state that keeps a database of firearm purchases, it includes that. Why is that a big deal? Because instead of looking for terrorists, the TSA will be directing extra scrutiny at law abiding gun owners while the guy from Nigeria with a pound of C-4 in his underwear will be waved by since the TSA is more comfortable with planes being hijacked than being accused of racial profiling. Also, what does the exercising...

“News of the Strange” – Squirrel Shootouts and Water Assaults

In a pair of head scratching stories involving guns a police officer in TN goes full on Robocop to handle a squirrel and in FL a 19 year old women gets arrested for an unprovoked water gun attack on her boyfriend. In the first story Officer Overkill Jody Putman was in a Dollar Store in Mountain Tennessee when the employers noticed that a squirrel was inside the store.  Putman leapt into immediate action and deployed his pepper spray on the furry little interloper.  When that failed he responded by pulling out his sidearm to dispense woodland justice to the trespasser. So in a scene reminiscent of a slapstick comedy,  people were fleeing the store hacking and coughing from the contact with the spray while Putman is firing live rounds at a little squirrel. Putman then tried to cover up his involvement in the great squirrel hunt of 2013 by refusing to file a...

CA Court of Appeals lays foundation for near total gun ban

On Monday October 21st 2013, California’s 4th District Court of Appeal held that the Second Amendment does not apply to semi-automatic firearms like “AK” platform rifles. At first, while a setback for the 2nd Amendment, a person might try and rationalize this ruling as a ruling against so called “assault” weapons and considering it IS California after all that is not too surprising.  But as they say, the devil is in the details and this ruling is much more insidious than simply undercutting the right to keep and bear AK-47’s. In their ruling the court states:  “We construe Heller as standing for the proposition that the right secured by the Second Amendment is ‘not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose’ (Heller, supra, 554 U.S. at p. 626), but is instead the right to possess and carry weapons typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes...

Playing with toy guns AT HOME gets 3 students yearlong suspension from school

From Political Outcast: The Virginia Beach City Public School district is saying that the students aren’t actually being expelled; they’re being given “long-term suspensions.” Whatever the case, the students won’t be allowed back to school for the rest of this semester and even until June of next year. There will be some hearing in January to decide if these students deserve longer-term suspensions. These “suspensions” were prompted by an incident a couple weeks ago when a few friends were playing with their airsoft plastic pellet guns in one of the boys’ front yards while they were waiting for the morning bus to come. A “concerned” neighbor called 911, even admitting to the operator that the guns were toys, but that they made her feel “uncomfortable.” Local news media reported that ironically, this concerned neighbor’s own son was among those kids playing in an airsoft gun war. That particular 911 call was made...

Protective Orders and Firearms, the Salem Witch Trials of Today

Between the years of 1692 and 1693 more than 25 people were accused  of being witches and were either executed or died in prison in the area around Salem Massachusetts.   Nearly all of the accused and condemned had little more evidence against them than some other person pointing at them and yelling “WITCH!!” One might think that some 300 plus years down the line we might have evolved over such knee jerk reactions and rushes to judgment but when it comes to gun owners that is often not the case.  In particular, a person can request a protective order in many states by simply saying they were threatened.  No proof is needed, no evidence required.  Yet for a falsely accused gun owner they are completely stripped of their 2nd Amendment rights, as a condition of a protective order is that you must forfeit your firearms for the duration...

The Sunshine State moves to fortify the 2nd Amendment against Federal infringements

There was some worry that Florida, after the railroading and demonization of  Peruvian-American Jorge Zimmerman when he defended himself against alleged homophobe and gay basher Trayvon Martin, would crack down on the right to keep and bear arms. Fortunately, there were enough clear eyed people in the sunshine state who saw through the media’s fog of bias and racial pandering.  Not only did they leave “Stand Your Ground” alone, despite the media’s continued assault that SYG had anything to do with Zimmerman being found not guilty, the legislators and people of Florida are pushing for more freedom from tyranny in the form of the “Florida Second Amendment Preservation Act.” For the most part, this Act follows in the footsteps of other Firearm Protection Acts in that it reasserts State Sovereignty in the protection of rights granted to the people by their Creator and Natural Law. To wit:   THE...

Brian Aitken: In NJ, even when you are innocent you’ll pay like you’re guilty

Brian Aitken had his life destroyed for doing something that all Americans are constitutionally guaranteed the right to do, owning a firearm. While moving to the draconian, gun-hating state of New Jersey, Brian was pulled over while transporting his gun to his new home. Guns are all but banned in New Jersey, save for under some special circumstances, one of which is moving a gun to a new residence. Even though Brian had done nothing illegal, he was sentenced to seven years in prison by a depraved activist judge. He was pardoned (not really, i’ll get to that later) after four months, but has been suffering from the fraudulent charges levied against him ever since. Brian is still a convicted felon. He can’t travel to other countries, pass any type of background check, and worst of all, hasn’t been able to see his son in four years. Not only...

The 1911 .45…the Gun, the Myth, the Legend

In the past 100 plus years the 1911 handgun has grown to nigh Herculean proportions.  It has morphed into a dragon slaying, never failing, super powered Excalibur that knows no equal. I tend to agree. In service for over a century the pistol has withstood the test of time and is even seeing a resurgence in recent years as some units in both the military and law enforcement are leaving behind the Glocks and Berettas for the trusty 1911.  Example of these include Marine Corps Special Operations Command, LAPD SWAT, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, F.B.I. regional S.W.A.T. teams, and 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment—Delta (Delta Force). But what of the truly awe inspiring stories that have cemented the legend of the 1911? For those we look to war, for it is in wartime that the mythos of the 1911 has been fostered.  In the 75 years from 1918 to 1993, at least...

Watch out for the herd of RINO’s through congress. Congressional cowardice sinks Americans

With the “Republicans In Name Only” caucus cowering in the light of negative press and their own innate lacking of a spine, Congress has cobbled together enough support to lift the debt ceiling, “reopen” the government (with back pay so it’s like it never happened) and American’s are still forced to buy something that they may not want just because they happen to be alive. Such a productive fortnight. Why do the RINO’s always think that if they go along to get along that somehow the media and those on the left will all of a sudden become all lovey-dovey with them. The reality is more like this cartoon from ComicallyIncorrect.com   My real beef is with the individual mandate.  From Nancy “we need to pass it so we can find out what’s in it” Pelosi to the betrayal of Chief Justice Roberts to the cowardice of the Republicans...

Medal of Honor Recipient Trumps President in Getting Things Done

The latest soldier to earn the Congressional Medal of Honor, Captain William D Swenson, is a credit to his country and I thank him for his heroism and gallantry. I also thank him for his doggedness in pursuing disciplinary actions to those who he felt were responsible for getting soldiers killed.  A number that would be higher if not for the actions of Captain Swenson. The official Medal of Honor Citation for Captain Swenson:   For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty: Captain William D. Swenson distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as embedded advisor to the Afghan National Border Police, Task Force Phoenix, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan in support of 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th...

Not Gun Free and Proud Of It, Texas School Puts Up Best Sign Ever

This is a great sign and it will definitely be more effective at eliminating threats than the false flag of “Gun Free” Zone signs. On top of the faculty actually having the tools in which to deal with an active shooter (who in other schools is welcomed to kill at will) the Shamrock Independent School District has also installed 30 new security cameras, an intercom system, and bulletproof windows. This is one school that actually has taken serious and effective steps to prevent tragedies.  While ghouls such as Bloomberg and Giffords push their gun control agenda in order to disarm the law abiding by exploiting dead children, Shamrock has learned a real lesson from Sandy Hook. That lesson is that imaginary force fields (gun free zones) and “feeling” safe doesn’t actually do a lick of good in stopping an armed person with evil intent.  After all, if wishes were...

If gun control works so well why is there ANY murder in NYC

New York City recently celebrated a week free of murders, abruptly ended by murder. But if Bloomberg’s gun free city is so great why are there any murders? Funny thing about that.  Somehow, even with a de facto ban on guns criminals STILL use them to kill.  Another funny thing, despite what Bloomberg prattles on about, you can kill people with things OTHER than guns. There have been 256 murders thus far this year in the city.  Of those only 148 were committed by firearms.  That means 108 people were murdered by something OTHER than a firearm. With all the gun hating prognosticators using fear tactics to demonize firearms you would think that without  firearm’s forcing people to do evil their would be NO crime without a firearm. While the NYPD and Bloomberg were patting themselves on the back because they had one week without a murder I took...

The cautionary tale of American Indians – What happens when only 1 side has the guns

Seeing as it is Columbus day, I am reminded of the cautionary tale that can be learned from the treatment of the American Indian for some 400 years.  It is a tale of what happens when one side has the guns and the desire to take and control what the other side has. In this case the European explorers and those who followed them.  For gold, resources and land the conquering Europeans carved out a foothold in this land and spent the next few centuries pushing west to conquer it all.  Sure, they spoke of living in harmony and we have the whole Thanksgiving story but in the end an entire race of people lost 2 continents. Before we go any further, let me just say that I am not against manifest destiny, Christopher Columbus or the Washington Redskins; the world is made up of winners and losers.  My...

Gun Control Success: CA teacher murdered in front of students by knife.

53 year old teacher Kellye Taylor was murdered in front of her students during recess by the father of her grandchildren, Steven Brown. Taylor was overpowered by the younger man and fatally stabbed in the neck. Is this what successful gun control looks like? What I see is that an older woman who could not overpower her attacker was murdered in front of her students and could not have carried a firearm to defend herself.  The equalizer that the 2nd Amendment is supposed to guarantee would have given her a fighting chance yet was denied her. This is the real effect that gun control has.  It disarms the law abiding and leaves vulnerable the small, the old, and the weak.  Now those who are bigger, younger and stronger can rape rob and murder without real fear of repercussions during their crime.  Sure the cops can come later and make...

“If you don’t win, cheat”; that’s the Chicago way

From the city that gave us Barack Obama, Al Capone and the term “Chicago Politics” now gives us a mash up of all three in order to fight against the recent ruling recognizing Chicagoan’s right to keep and bear arms. The Chicago City council has taken it upon themselves to try and infringe and limit the newly recognized right within their city by any means necessary.  By using coercion and threats the thugs of the City Council are forcing the owners of businesses that serve alcohol to place a sign in their window banning guns on the premises. That doesn’t mean just bars, anyplace that serves alcohol will be forced to acquiesce to the whims of the City Council.  This includes restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs, sporting venues, carnivals and festivals etc. Though liquor and grocery stores are exempt. The stance on this matter is reminiscent of a scene in...

Gun Free Zones – The Den of Iniquity

After the Washington Navy Yard shootings two weeks ago, the gun control and background check issues have come up for discussion again, as has the idea of creating more gun-free zones. I don’t know how to break it to the anti-gun people, but it’ll never work to lower violence. Washington, D.C., Chicago and New York City have the most stringent gun-control laws in the nation, and yet they still have a huge number of gun-related incidents every year, by people who usually have possession of them illegally. But let’s look beyond gun-related crimes. How about violent crimes? A number of individuals in the anti-gun crowd tout the idea of being passive. In a study of rape cases, there was a 32% instance of successful rapes on women who were unarmed, and a 3% instance in women who were armed and defended themselves. Are those numbers counted in cases of...
