An Adorable Story on Valentines Day with a Lion a Tiger and a Bear…oh my!

I’m not a fan of Valentines Day.  It is truly the quintessential Hallmark Holiday and the notion that a guy should treat his girlfriend/wife better on this day than the other 364 days of the year is insulting. If you aren’t treating your significant other like she’s the most special creature on the planet but for once a year, you are failing. Valentines day is the one day I take off from romance because its not special if you are obligated to do it.  It would be like saying you are volunteering for something that is all ready mandatory. With that being said, I felt like I would nonetheless share a story of loving friendship between three unique individuals.  A friendship that was forged in hardship yet has withstood the test of time and animal instinct. I’m referring to these adorable characters:   Leo the Lion, Baloo the Bear and Shere...

Challenger “Touches the Face of God” January 28th 1986

I was just a kid in 1986 and space travel and astronauts was very exciting. I remember watching the Challenger exploding and my young eyes not really believing what I was seeing. Then the leader of our nation got on television and put into words what a young heart couldn’t speak at the time.  Just 650 words, delivered in under 5 minutes comforted me and a grieving nation.  I consider myself lucky that the first President that I knew was Ronald Reagan…it is a pity that those who have followed him have been found wanting. The following article is from Savingourfuture.com and goes into greater detail about the Challenger crash and the man who soothed a nations grief. Twenty-nine years ago today, January 28, 1986, the NASA Space Shuttle orbiter Challenger exploded and broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members...

Musical Guns – A Gunpowder Homage To Pitch Perfect (video)

In case you never saw the movie Pitch Perfect, Anna Kendrick uses an empty cup to keep the beat while she sings  “When I’m Gone.” She did it a capella and it was pretty good. In truth, until now, I never thought it was missing anything. Then I saw this and realized what was missing…FIREPOWER. This is Nashville singer Jim Huish’s rendition of the song with a 2nd Amendment twist. Enjoy! True, the vocals are drowned out a bit at the end by the near automatic fire, but still…if that didn’t bring a smile to your face then this winter has frozen your heart my friend.  This is pretty clever interpretation of what Ms. Kendrick did in the movie and the coordination of which wasn’t easy by any means. For those of you who hadn’t seen the Pitch Perfect, here is the clip in which I have been referencing http://youtu.be/v2mawaBrvFg Despite what the gun...

Christmas Break For Bullets First

Hey faithful readers.  Just wanted to take a moment to assure you that Bullets First hasn’t gone anywhere. Just with the Christmas season in full swing and some inclement weather making my internet connection spotty I have been unable to write any new articles. As such, until the 26th of December I will be on holiday. Before I go, allow me to wish you the very Merriest of Christmas’s and let us remember that the season is more than just gift giving and commercialization. And after the family festivities draw to a close, when you go out with friends be it on Christmas or New Year’s…be...

Tactical Christmas Stocking For The Gun Lover In Your Family

I like to wait until my Thanksgiving dinner is fully digested before I start thinking about Christmas shopping.  So no, you will not see me fight tooth and claw with a herd of wild animals on Black Friday, and ESPECIALLY not on Thursday night.  In fact I put the notion out of my mind completely until now or else I would have written about this item sooner. The NRA has up armored the traditional Christmas stocking and is selling it online for $25. I have to admit, while my naysayers may think I live in a bunker with camoflauge netting and sleep upon a pile of sandbags, the reality is that I don’t go for the “tactical everything in my life look.”  Because of that, I can see something like this and appreciate it’s kitschy coolness. I mean, who WOULDN’T want a desert tan, tactical black or olive drab...

A Sobering Look At Ferguson On This Thanksgiving Day

First and foremost, I’m sure the law abiding citizens who armed up before the verdict are thankful they live in a state that respects their right to keep and bear arms for self defense.  No doubt the fires, looting and riots would have been much more expansive had the mob been unopposed by those willing to stand up for themselves and their community. But this article isn’t about the common sense of being armed against a mob. I read something this morning from a New Orleans Saints player, Benjamin Watson, who encapsulates the entire sentiment of the Ferguson affair in a level headed and objective way. From Watson’s Facebook Page: At some point while I was playing or preparing to play Monday Night Football, the news broke about the Ferguson Decision. After trying to figure out how I felt, I decided to write it down. Here are my thoughts:...

NH Dem Shows True Colors, Vows To Infringe EVERY Right To Thwart Libertarians

In case you are unfamiliar with the Free State Project, it is a socio-political experiment conceived back in 2001 in which Libertarians would pledge to move to a state en masse in order to establish a Libertarian run state government, an example of true Constitutional governance.  The state eventually chosen was New Hampshire and the number of people required being 20,000. After 13 years, as of October, the number is at 16,174 pledged with another 1,654 “early movers” who took the initiative and moved before the 20K pledges were hit.  In other words 17,828 people have all ready committed.  Organizers of the FSP believe that they will hit their objective and begin the mass migration to the New Hampshire before the 2016 election. While I love seeing this finally coming to fruition and am really looking forward to what New Hampshire can become, not all from the Granite State...

Here’s Some Advice, STOP Moving Into Houses Run By HOA’s

Homeowners Associations may have started out with the best of intentions but have morphed into a ego driven, group think run, oligarchy of nosy nimwits who seem to, more often than not, hate America. As I had written earlier in the month, such a group in Indiana had fired a groundskeeper for having a gun at his OWN home. But this is not an isolated incident but rather a reflection of HOA’s and private communities who are run by people who think they can have their own fiefdom. Once again in Indiana, this time Fieldstone Homeowners Association has told Korean War Veteran, Bob Willits, that he cannot fly his American and POW/MIA flags in his OWN FRONT YARD. The HOA claims that it isn’t against the flag but that it is on a flag pole. Basically they are saying that they don’t have a problem with the flag being displayed…they...

The Flipside – A Comedy News Show That Doesn’t Hate America

Truth be told, the Colbert Show is funny and the Daily Show has its moments but then Jon Stewart will take a hard left and jump the rails from being a fair game comic to a liberal idealogue.  Suffice it to say that I had long wished that there were a fun show covering news topics that didn’t hate my viewpoints and values…you know…America. I’ve had enough diatribes by Jon Stewart about how guns are the problem, or Stephen Colbert using satire to make gun rights supporters look like idiots while his character supports them. It was to the point that it was like watching a viewable version of BSNBC…whoops, I meant MSNBC…hmmm…or did I, they both fit. It was with great delight that I found that there was at least one show out there that is bucking the trend, aptly named, “The Flipside.” The brainchild of Rodney Lee Conover, Conover...

Pretty Pin Ups With Guns, Utah is NOT Pleased [Video]

In a story that mashes together the reserved nature of Mormon dominated Utah, with the sexualized fits of fancy you would expect from a pin up calendar, a bit of situation has arisen in the Beehinve State. The calendar maker, Hot Shots, filmed a promotional video of their models during the photoshoot that took place both in the desert flats as well has the mountain peaks of Utah.  The film and subsequent calendar utilized equipment from the Utah National Guard, both vehicles and weaponry. Some in the state of Utah are not happy about it and as such are demanding an investigation into the entire situation.  I’m not exactly sure what they are looking to investigate as the video clearly shows that the bikini clad models are firing live ammo and rolling around in tanks and armored vehicles, not props. Here, take a look for yourself.  Note, there are...

Gun Control Can’t Stop Evil and Evil Exists

The fundamental flaw that has always plagued gun controllers is that they somehow believe that gun control will deter or stop criminals.  In truth it will only hamper the law abiding.  Evil, as it turns out, doesn’t give a hoot about laws or ethics or morality.  And have no doubt evil exists in the world in abundance. One need look no further than Scranton Pennsylvania and into the eyes of a demonic little 10 year old. From Liberty Unyielding: How unspeakable would a murder need to be in order for the assailant, aged 10, to be charged as an adult? Decide for yourself based on the facts, which are as follows: A boy, who can be described as the very least as having extreme anger issues, lost his temper with a 90-year-old woman. So he grabbed a cane, hooked it around her neck, and held her down as he beat her, ultimately crushing her trachea....

James Harrison and His Logical Pro 2nd Amendment Arguments Return to Pittsburgh

As a Pittsburgher I am a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  As a 2nd Amendment advocate I am a fan of the right to keep and bear arms.  When those two worlds collide, you get James Harrison. After a short stint away from the team, Harrison has returned to help a injury riddled defense keep it together.  I love his no nonsense, hard nosed, old school style of football but I also love his rational, logical and well reasoned stance on the 2nd Amendment. A few years ago I wrote an article after Bob Costas suffered diarrhea of the mouth and started using televised football games in order to promote his gun hating racist tantrums.  “Even if all those guns were obtained legally, you can’t have 65 guys in their 20′s and 30′s, aggressive young men subject to impulses, without something bad happening,” -Bob Costas Considering that nigh 70%...

What Soldiers Do In Their Downtime

For all of us who have served in the armed forces, the term “hurry up and wait” is not an unfamiliar concept.  Despite what the movies and action films would have you believe, the life of a soldier is best described (especially in a war zone) as: Long periods of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror. To put it lightly, there is a LOT of downtime.  And there is only so much downtime a person can take before they need to find some avenue of mental stimulation. Yes, there are things to do, but there are only so many times you can sweep a floor or check your gear before it just becomes punitive.  And yes, lifting weights and playing cards are options but they can become repetitive.  So every once in a while some high speed low drag trooper comes up with an idea and gets his...

Obama Administration Attempting To Murder the S’More

Most people who enjoy the outdoors have at one time or another found themselves around a campfire, toasting a marshmallow, ready to put that gooey orb of goodness upon a graham cracker and broken chocolate bar to create the American classic, a S’More. But like most of the goodness in America, the Obama adminstration has once again taken measures to try and subvert and destroy what is good and replace it with what is acceptable to them. Health Care, International Affairs, the notion that America should have a border etc. have all been turned upside down and broken by this current administration.  But the depravity of murdering the S’More is appalling. No doubt being pressured by his “eat kale while I eat cake” plus sized wife, Obama has directed the US Forest Service to begin a campaign to bamboozle Americans changing the American campfire treat into something completely unrecognizable....

If Tim Tebow Was Gay, Maybe the NFL Would Force a Team to Give HIM a Job

Michael Sam, the under-qualified, undersized, slow, weak, mediocre player from the University of Missouri got drafted because he was gay.  He was cut from the St. Louis Rams because he wasn’t good enough. The NFL couldn’t have that so they went around the league begging teams to take him on their practice squad. Jerry Jones eventually figured he could make a couple of bucks on jersey sales and took him on, also figuring that the league now owed him a favor. Before I go any further, let’s get to Sam’s qualifications first, just so you don’t think this is some subjective viewing. Michael Sam runs a slow 4.91 forty yard dash. Michael Sam can only bench press 225 lbs 17 times. Michael Sam runs the three cone drill in an interminable 7.8 seconds. Michael Sam SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year is misleading.  He recorded 11.5 with sacks which appear...

When you go shooting, don’t forget the sunscreen…seriously

As gun owners, sportsmen, hunters and the like, we often spend a great deal of time outdoors under the harsh glare of the sun, be it shooting at an outdoor range, hunting or just getting in tune with nature.  Too often we have taken for granted the effects that nature, namely the sun, has on our skin.  This is partly true because we believe what are eyes tell us. If we don’t see dark moles, if we don’t see sunburn, if we don’t see freckles then we assume we aren’t getting too much sun and therefore we are safe. I admit that I myself have fallen into this belief. But like many outdoorsmen, shooters etc. I spend a great deal of time in the sun and have finally realized that it is the damage that you DON’T see that is the most serious. Below is a short, three minute...

Tony Stewart Recklessly Kills a Man, Time to Ban All Cars

The title of this article is steeped with sarcasm.  But it is used to illustrate the absurdity that gun controllers like to levy upon guns by applying it elsewhere.  In case you haven’t heard, this past Saturday night in Canandaigua, NY, professional racecar driver, Tony Stewart, ran over and killed a fellow driver who got out of his vehicle and tried to confront Stewart while the race was still on. First and foremost, dumb idea.  Even under a caution flag, these cars were whizzing around the dirt track at speeds of 55+ mph.  And while my sympathies go out to the family of Kevin Ward Jr. willingly placing yourself in harms way in order to pick a fight is not really the safest thing to do. With that being said, as you can see in the following video, it is unclear whether Stewart actually swerved INTO Ward as he...

Guns are like Motorcycle Helmets…helpful tools when needed

It’s a funny thing when you think about it, but I have had to use my personal firearm more times to protect myself than I had my motorcycle helmet with a score of 1 to nothing. Well, that changed today.  While taking an early morning ride a car in front of me stopped short and I applied my brakes a bit too heavily and hit some broken pavement and went sliding across the street.  Was I badly injured?  No.  Though the road rash on my arm and leg are not pretty to look at. Fortunately, though it is not required in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I was wearing my DOT Approved Motorcycle Helmet.  Because I had the TOOLS available to me my scalp did not suffer the same fate as my arm and knee. The TOOL did it’s job and I remained safe. I’m sure some of my long...
