Day 2 of CPAC: Rand Paul Brings Down the House

The second day of CPAC was pretty much your standard fare, more red meat and all. There was a forum in the main hall entitled: “Can Libertarians and Social Conservatives Get Along”…even after sitting through the entire forum I wasn’t exactly sure if they could. After the forum though, Rand Paul took the stage to a packed house and the applause was exuberant and deafening. His speech started off with him painting a picture in the minds of the audience, imagine a time true liberty was enjoyed coast to coast.  Imagine a time when the Constitution was the law of the land.  Imagine a President who loved America and didn’t shred the Constitution in a megalomaniacal attempt to crown himself emperor.   Ok, so maybe the last part I paraphrased just a bit, but you get the sentiment. As a gun rights advocate I took to imagining a time...

Hey Connecticut, 1933 Berlin called, they want their Gestapo back

The powers that be in Connecticut have decided that little things like the Constitution and Rights have no place in the (ironically named) Constitution state. When you have the Connecticut State Police spokesman, Lt. Paul Vance declare that anyone who voices opinions contrary to support of the new gun control law “sounds anti-American” one cannot help but hear shades of the Gestapo looking to root out any perceived opposition to the dictatorship. Here is a quote from Lt. Vance during a phone conversation with a woman whose husband received a letter saying he must turn in or destroy his weapons because the authority didn’t get the paperwork in time: “Ma’am, it sounds like you’re anti-American, it sounds like you’re anti-law.” According to Vance, if you are not lock step in line with the government’s oppression then you are Anti-American. When the caller, Ashley, responds to this notion by saying...

Winter is Coming…and the White Walkers are coming for your guns

With the seemingly endless winter that most of the country has been dealing with recently, I have had occasion to reflect on a series of books that I enjoy, George RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The more I thought about it the more I realized that the tale told in the tomes of his series are an allegory for a lot of what is going on in the US. You see, in America, which has experienced and enjoyed freedom and liberty for so long, the people forget that these things are not guaranteed.  That they were bought many years ago with the blood of both Patriot and Tyrant alike. But after such a long while in the sun you forget that winter exists.  Even when people see the signs all around, they say things like “that’ll NEVER happen here” or “that CAN’T happen here.” Notions of...

Another case where Gun Registration leads to Gun Confiscation

As a child, I remember watching the movie Red Dawn starring Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell. The thing about that movie that really hit a chord with me was a scene when the Soviets had just landed and the commander told one of his lieutenants to go to the gun shops for they would have a list of all the guns owned by the people, thus making it easier for the Soviets to round them up. Now, while a work of fiction, the concept is sound.  If you make a list of everyone who has a gun, it’s easier for an oppressive authority to confiscate them when they don’t want you to have them. Unfortunately in America, this is not limited to the realm of fiction. I have spoken about he jackbooted thuggery of New Orleans Police when they went out and forcibly confiscated guns from citizens in...

Liberal hate aims to derail Heston Stamp

It’s a small thing really.  A famed legendary actor getting a US Postal stamp. Unless of course that famed actor actively fought for the 2nd Amendment. Charlton Heston was initially scheduled to have his likeness adorn a US Postage Stamp on April 11th, 2014.  Yet after the intelligentsia of the left got wind of this they have been making all kinds of racket.  As such, the powers that be somewhere along the line forced the Postal Service to issue a statement refuting the stamp being a done deal. Roy Betts, spokesmen for the USPS said: The document (stating Heston’s stamp release) was not meant for publication, nor have final decisions been made. While the document contained recommendations from the 15 members of the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee, its selections are not final until other steps are taken, including legal reviews and consumer input. The BS meter on that one...

Does Upstate New York have the answer to breaking free of Gun Control?

With the passage of the freedom crushing SAFE Act, some have speculated that the politicians in Albany, made up heavily from downstate gun grabbers, have taken a bridge too far. It was so sloppily thrown together and included banning police officers from using their firearms that it had to be altered in order to create two classes of citizens.  Those who work for the states who still get to exercise the rights enumerated in the Constitution and the rest of the people, who are more like inconveniences to the body politic. That’s just the way things go in the EMPIRE state. Now other states who have faced this type of injustice, such as California, have spouted off about breaking up the state.  Even Colorado and Maryland have been getting in on the state splitting action.  But let’s set them aside for now because their split would change little and...

Strong Gun Control, Oppressive Government…Welcome to Kiev Ukraine

What does an oppressive government, restricting gun control and a total disdain for the populace get you? So far about 100 people dead and a nation’s capital on fire. Oddly enough, some people STILL claim that such a thing could never happen here. First, they need to be stood correctly, they don’t think something like that can happen here…AGAIN. And i’m not talking about some Whiskey Rebellion on the frontier of Appalachia in the 1700’s.  No, one need only look to the 20th Century to see how an American government can kill and injure it’s own citizens who come to DC for regress of grievances. In 1932 the “Bonus Army”, some 17,000 WWI veterans and their families (approx 43,000 marchers) came to Washington DC to demand their promised bonus money for serving in the “Great War”.  The government’s response?  Send in the Infantry and 6 tanks to drive the people...

Science fiction passes for “sensible” gun control measures

It was bad enough with all this micro-stamping nonsense but now we have to enter the realm of Judge Dredd? To refresh your memory micro-stamping was the flawed technology that was supposed to imprint a micro-print on every shell casing of every round of ammunition fired.  I say flawed because legislation was passed before the technology was ever possible let alone feasible. Think about it, all a person would have to do to get around the micro-print at the end of the firing pin is to grind it off.  A process that naturally occurs after the first few dozen shots anyways.  Or, even if THAT weren’t the case criminals (if they couldn’t get stolen guns) would simply start using revolvers and police their own brass. The goal of micro-stamping legislation was not to actually use it to solve crimes but rather to bankrupt gun manufacturers by forcing them to...

Introducing the New York Legal AR-15 rifle and the man bringing it to the Empire State

Nestled in the mountains of the southern Adirondacks is a gun shop that is fighting tyranny by giving back the 2nd Amendment to it’s patrons. With the passage of the SAFE Act and the measures within that are a cross between draconian and byzantine, sporting rifles such as the AR-15 have been prohibited simply because they look scary though they have no functional difference between any other popular hunting rifle. But, instead of just sitting back and accepting a broad sweeping infringement upon the rights of New Yorkers, Rich Sehlmeyer, owner of The Gun Shop at MacGregors, has been waging his own battle against the SAFE Act by helping oppressed New Yorkers keep possession of the most popular rifle in the country. A little bit about Rich and his gun shop first.  A small family business that started a decade ago with just 20 rifles and 5 handguns, the place...

Justice Scalia reaffirms the need for the 2nd Amendment: “In times of war, laws fall silent”

Discussing cases with students at the University of Hawaii’s Law School, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia found himself questioned with the High Court’s ruling back in 1944 that upheld the convictions of Gordon Hirabayashi and Fred Korematsu for failing to voluntarily give up their freedom and report to an internment camp without due process. Scalia’s response to the Court’s decision was this: “Well, of course, Korematsu (court decision) was wrong. And I think we have repudiated in a later case. But you are kidding yourself if you think the same thing will not happen again.”  He then went on to quote Cicero by saying: ” inter arma silent leges” (translation: In times of War, laws fall silent) This tyrannical oppression of Americans of Japanese decent during World War II is not the only time that Justice Scalia has spoken on the dangers of usurping peoples rights under the auspices of national...

Peaceful Rebellion Catching Fire In Connecticut

Gun control zealots, empowered from feeding off the blood of young children, seized their moment to punish the law abiding citizens of Connecticut last year and passed pointless gun control legislation that did nothing to prevent gun violence. Rather, these ghouls who exploit tragedy and the death of young children for their own ends, hoisted upon the innocent, draconian measures that sought to strip the rights from citizens in order to make them subjects and more easier to control. I must admit, I had underestimated the people of the Constitution State, because rather than just bending over and taking it they have risen up in quiet rebellion against this tyranny and have simply said: “No.” The legislation of citizen control that was passed last year in Hartford required that citizens who owned sporting rifles or any magazine that held more than 10 rounds (aka MOST magazines), must have those...

Does America need to look to Mexico for a reminder of the true meaning of the 2nd Amendment?

The 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting. That is a well and established fact. And while the 2nd Amendment is about defense it does not end there. You see, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms goes so much further than simply defending yourself and your property.  It was enumerated in the Constitution so that the people would always have the means in which to defend their liberty and freedom from dangers both foreign AND domestic.  Namely its own government…or those who act freely with the government’s allowance. And, despite what VP Biden would have you believe, you need a little more than granddaddy’s ole double barrel shotgun blasting warning shots to do so. But in the US, it seems many have forgotten our roots.  That, while this country was founded on ideals, it was forged at the muzzle of a gun and the tip of a bayonet. For those...

Racist Gun Control Laws Denied Martin Luther King Jr the Right to Defend Himself

The basis for gun control has always been racist in nature.  It started in the South to ensure that freed slaves wouldn’t be allowed to defend themselves. It has expanded over the years to encompass a larger range of goals such as controlling the populace at large and centralizing power within the government; can’t have those uppity peons thinking they are citizens after all. So it should come as no surprise that in 1956 when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr applied for a concealed weapons permit in Alabama, due to his receiving constant death threats and having his house BOMBED, he was denied. If a man like Dr. King wasn’t “worthy” to be given a concealed weapons permit then I submit that as proof that any notion of needing to ask the government for permission before exercising a right is flawed.  If a civil rights leader who promotes non-violence...

Oklahoma Judge Makes Strong Argument to Repeal SAFE Act and Gun Bans

They say politics make the strangest bedfellows. Ironically, a liberal activist judge in Oklahoma has once again furthered the judicial basis to strengthen 2nd Amendment rights of Americans…completely unintentionally. While ruling to gut not only the Constitution of Oklahoma but also to force the Okie state to recognize marriage licenses from other states, U.S. District Judge Terrence Kern forwarded the 2nd Amendment. You see, the voters of Oklahoma voted to amend their state constitution to specify that marriage is between a man and a women.  Apparently, states rights don’t really matter to Judge Kern when he can just imagine that the issue of marriage is somehow in the US Constitution.  It’s not. But let’s pretend that Kern’s ruling that the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment is somehow relevant to gay marriage. I say it like that because marriage can be viewed like tax breaks.  A state may dictate...

Holder’s Hypocrisy Dance on Gay Marriage and Guns

Utah’s voters passed a resolution to not recognize gay marriages within their state.  Much like when California also overwhelmingly passed a similar resolution those on the losing side of the issue sued to have the will of the people overturned. Unlike California, the governor of Utah is not complicit the undermining of his own constituency’s voice and decided to fight the suit. Initially an activist judge, Roberty Shelby, ruled that gay marriages must be performed in Utah.  Roughly 1300 such marriages were allowed to go forward until the Supreme Court finally stepped in to place a stay on the ruling until the appeal of Utah was heard. This is where corrupt Attorney General Eric Holder and the Obama Administration decide to get involved. Eric Holder has released a statement saying that the Federal Government will recognize these marriages even if their state does not. Here is the video, take...

Another innocent man being railroaded by gun control

I guess “innocent” is technically not true but what was not a crime a week ago is one now, as Tyrone Watson found out. The 30 year old Bridgeport man is the first person to be charged in Connecticutt for having a “high capacity magazine”. Or, rather, for having the magazine that came with his handgun known by most rational people as a normal magazine.  But this is what happens when gun controllers get to arbitrarily dictate what is “high capacity” and define what is “normal”. Few pistols now a day hold less than 11 rounds, the noticeable exception being the 1911 and its clones.  But Glocks for instance, favored by law enforcement departments around the country hold 15 rounds standard.  Springfield Armories popular XD line hold 13 rounds for the .45 (also standard) and even more for the smaller caliber rounds.  The Baretta 9mm holds 15 rounds as...

What if your freedom of speech was limited to one topic?

That is the equivalent of what Federal District Court Judge William M. Skretny ruled in regards to New York States ridiculously named SAFE Act. In his opinion Judge Skretny ruled that the provision of a 7 bullet maximum for magazines was unconstitutional.  Outside of any 1911 owners that pretty much would have outlawed all semi automatic pistols. Now, sure this is a victory of the 2nd Amendment…a victory borne through resounding defeats. Skretny also ruled that everything else in the SAFE Act is constitutional. These provisions include: -The “Assault Weapons Ban”.  Not only limited to rifles but any firearm that has ONE miiltary feature, be it a telescoping or folding stock or a pistol grip on a long gun.  How exactly these features make a weapon any more dangerous is beyond me but the bed wetting gun controllers who know nothing about firearms apparently equate black guns to violence and...

Gun Confiscation in time for Christmas. Yukon Cornelius stripped of his trusty revolver

In another example of liberal political correctness run amok and the desire to rewrite history, beloved claymation character Yukon Cornelius has had his nickel plated six shooter confiscated by toy companies. As you can see in the picture below, Yukon Cornelius was a man who looked after his own well being while out in the harsh wilderness.  He dressed warmly for his environment, had his wool cap and ear muffs, warm weather jacket and pants and some sturdy boots.  He was also well provisioned carrying with him a backpack for supplies, a canteen, a knife, a hammer AND A GUN. Yet while the reasoning for a prospector who spends his life in the wilderness having a gun is pretty solid, today’s “intellectuals” with their soft constitutions and desire to only portray guns in a negative light have stripped Yukon Cornelius of his revolver in their attempt to socially engineer...
