In a statement she made last week as the District began accepting applications for carry permits Lanier stated her views unequivocally:
“Living in a crime-plagued area where killings have occurred, would not be sufficient cause for a concealed carry permit; nor would owning a home that’s been burglarized many times.”
What does that translate to? Even if you are a victim of MULTIPLE crimes or live in an area that you have an abnormally HIGH likelihood of being victimized, which is saying something since you all ready live in the crime capital of America, EVEN with all that in, Lanier’s eyes, you do not have “sufficient cause” to carry.
My question becomes, if imminent danger and a history of victimization aren’t reasons acceptable to the issuing authority for a carry permit, then what is?
Other than, you know, being related to the police chief or working for a politician.
This whole situation, with Chief Lanier being the sole arbitrator in the issuing of these carry permits, is an affront to liberty and a mockery of the Bill of Rights.
It’s like denying the First Amendment right because some “authority” doesn’t like what you have to say.
Fortunately, there are others who can see through thin veil of disdain that Chief Lanier and those of her ilk have for the citizens of this country.
Erich Pratt, Director of Communications for Gun Owners of America, had this to say on Chief Lanier’s statement:
“Perhaps Ms. Lanier should live by her own words and give up her gun. But, of course, she won’t which just shows how hypocritical anti-gun liberals are. They shove their political ideology down everyone else’s throat. Their guiding principle seems to be that “it’s okay for me, but not for thee.”
Pratt nails it right on the head. Not one of Lanier’s cronies or her bosses cronies will be held to the same impossible standard as the general population. In fact, chances are, all those cronies who get a carry permit will be used by the anti gun liberals as a testament that they are actually issuing carry permits. With Lanier being the sole arbitrator on who gets their rights and who is denied them, she is carving out the “Two America” principle right in the heart of the Nation’s Capital.
As Erich Pratt put it, this just goes to show how hypocritical the anti gunners have always been. Because, while as Lanier carries while working as a part of her job, I’ve no doubt that she also carries while not wearing the shield.
Even though, at making $253,817 a year, I imagine she lives in a much safer neighborhood than those innocent people who are going to die in the street or walking into a home burglary because they are disarmed by her.
