Gov. Malloy of Connecticut is raking the gun owners of his state over the coals. After the Sandy Hook shooting Malloy was able to do what gun controllers always love doing, exploit dead children in order to shove laws down peoples throats that advance their agenda but wouldn’t have stopped the tragedy to begin with.
Remember, gun controllers aren’t about stopping crime, they are about stopping law abiding citizens from owning guns. I contend that gun controllers don’t care about crime but rather care about ensuring that YOU don’t have the right to protect yourselves. Not from criminals but rather from gun controllers.
So over the past 5 years Malloy has exploited dead children in order to advance his own agenda.
With his newest budget proposal Malloy has decided to go full scorched Earth against gun owners and a part of me grins while he does it.
First the what. As part of the budget he submitted, Malloy is proposing to increase the pistol permit fee from $70 to $300. He also is proposing the cost of the initial 5-year pistol permit fee from $140 to $370. Not to mention that on top of that Malloy is proposing to increase background check fees from its current $50 to $75.
To put it in percentages, the pistol permit fee will increase by over 400%
The initial 5-year pistol permit fee will increase by over 250%
And every time get a background check you are paying an additional 50%
Now the why. For Malloy he sees gun owners as a cow that he can milk to the tune of $9 million annually to help combat his states deficit of $3.6 BILLION. Of course, had he and his liberal cabal of idiots not run their state into the ground to begin with one would argue that the need for new streams of income would not be necessary.
Now for the other why. Namely, why would THIS make ME happy.
It’s quite simple. Malloy has overplayed his hand at a time that couldn’t be worse for people like him.
Hillary Clinton DID NOT WIN the Presidency.
Hillary Clinton WILL NOT BE MAKING APPOINTMENTS to the Supreme Court.
And even in nice blue liberal Connecticut there is a limit to how far oppression will go.
When Judge Gorsuch is finally confirmed on the Supreme Court…and maybe Trump gets the chance to appoint a replacement for Kennedy or Ginsburg, the railroading of gun owners will come to an end.
This isn’t wishful thinking. The country is finally making a course correction in regards to the 2nd Amendment. After Heller v DC and McDonald v Chicago state after state has passed constitutional carry that did away with need to ask the government for permission to exercise the right. At current count 10 states, a full 1/5 of the country has constitutional carry. New Hampshire is but a signature away from being the 11th and both Alabama and Texas have legislation being put forth to join the ranks along with several other states.
It is quite possible by the end of Trumps first term over half of the states in the Union will not require a permit for people to exercise their God given right that shall not be infringed.
So I fully expect a group of citizens from Connecticut to challenge Gov. Malloy’s new budget requirements and sue him based on civil rights violations of the 2nd Amendment. The rationale and the precedent for the argument will be found in the 24th Amednement to the Constitution. Though it deals directly with voting the notion that paying a poll tax to exercise a right is Constitutionally prohibited can be argued goes for ALL rights. ESPECIALLY the right that even in the text says “shall not be infringed.”
Amendment 24:
Section 1
The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
What is Malloy doing in Connecticut but denying the right to keep and bear arms of law abiding citizens by grinding them underfoot with exorbitant taxes on their fundamental rights. This is no more egregious than requiring a poll tax during Jim Crow.
For some reason Malloy refuses to see where the societal and political winds are blowing and has decided to offer up a text book case of civil rights abuse for the Supreme Court to pick apart. Because quite frankly, how anyone can view the taxes he wants leveled against people which cost more than the gun they would want to buy is either ignorant or such a political hack that they shouldn’t sit in judgement to begin with.
So this is why I grin. Because rights hating tyrants like Malloy will always shoot themselves in the foot if given enough time. There is always that straw that if added to the burden will break the camel’s back and Malloy laughingly tosses it on to his own agenda.
I can’t wait to see it all fall apart.
Think of it, if the Supreme Court rules that any tax or fee on the right to keep and bear arms is unconstitutional, they will basically be declaring that the entire country is a constitutional carry country.
Why do I say that with such liberal gun hating states like New York, California, Connecticut and Massachusetts around? Because quite frankly, all those hurdles that gun control states put their citizens through cost money. If the citizens are no longer required to pay and be complicit in their own subjugation, these states are going to have to fork over MILLIONS of dollars in order to do it. Connecticut has a 3.6 BILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT. Not an easy sell the voters to keep pouring millions of dollars in taxpayer money to harassing law abiding citizens when your state is going under.
So yes Malloy…why don’t you make it $1000 per permit. The sky’s the limit and it will be all the sweeter when it falls on you.
