PA Sheriff Offers FREE Optional Firearm Training Class

When it comes to training I find that the majority of gun owners believe in it. I also find that, like myself, they don’t believe that it should be mandatory. The First Amendment doesn’t require you to do research into what you are spouting off about, you don’t have to actually KNOW the issues in order to vote etc. That doesn’t mean you SHOULDN’T, just that the government doesn’t and shouldn’t dictate the terms of which you can exercise your rights. Suicide Guns For Sale: Bad Kharma or Just Discounted Firearm?

In honor of the Halloween season, I bring you a story touches on the macabre. In Greensburg, PA, a place a little to the east of Pittsburgh, the county coroner is auctioning off 97 guns used in suicides and accidental shooting deaths. The sale is to take place on November 8th and will be the first governmental gun sell back in Westmoreland County since the 1980’s. Corner Ken Bacha says state law requires local governments sell off unclaimed property. While they have often have sales auctioning off property and vehicles this will be the first gun auction since Bacha’s fater Leo, was coroner back in the 80’s. Proceeds will help fund county government. The coroners office takes possession of weapons during death investigations. Backwards Bullet…what happens when you load a bullet backwards in a casing? [Video]

I have to admit, I never thought of this, but if you load your ammunition and choose to load the bullet in reverse it has some surprising results. The theory is that by putting the concave portion of the bullet at the top, the shooter will have effectively created a projectile that will work as a hollow point round. In the following video from the Ammo Channel, the host puts this theory to the test using .308 Winchester rounds that he loaded himself. He uses both the traditional loading and the reverse loading then shoots into both ballistic jelly as well as steel plate. I found the results to be rather interesting but not unsurprising. FBI Claims Stopping Power A “Myth”

On the heels of the Army looking to replace the 9mm Beretta pistol as its standard sidearm, the FBI’s Training Division released a “new study” in May that was recently leaked to the public. The Study claims that the 9mm Luger pistol is the best option for law enforcement. Suggesting that departments shouldn’t switch their sidearms to larger rounds. The FBI Study shows there are a number of reasons for their conclusion. But their rationale is laughable. Looking over a copy of the FBI study I found their conclusions and assumptions to be rather simplistic. Missouri School Districts Taking Security Seriously

Unlike the ludicrous notion that a “gun free zone” sign produces some mystical force field that keeps gun toting maniacs off school grounds, four school districts in West Plains Missouri are taking PRACTICAL steps in order to ensure the safety of both students and faculty. These school districts recently sent staffers to the hilltop range of West Plains for five days of firearms training. I know there are a wide range of opinions on the matter. And in truth I think guns and alcohol go together as well as driving and alcohol. Yet, with that being said, who among us hasn’t had a drink with dinner at a restaurant and then drove home? Just because a drop of alcohol passes our lips does not immediately make us drunken blathering idiots. It comes down to personal responsibility. I know, in today’s America that is a radical concept.
